Project Description
Aluminium Clad Windows by TWN were pleased to supply and install Westcoast Windows bespoke aluminium oak composite windows for this delightful conversion of a historical barn and outbuildings into a large family home.
When the clients originally purchased the near derelict barn and outbuildings, and were in the initial planning phase of the project, they were struggling to find the right windows to fit their needs. They had almost decided on full timber windows, but were concerned about the upkeep and maintenance involved, particularly with the number of windows in the property and many in hard-to-reach areas. When they discovered that Rob and his team at Aluminium Clad Windows could offer a more low maintenance option that still allowed for an authentic oak interior they were won over. There were also particularly passionate about supporting a local Norfolk business.
Aluminium Clad Windows by TWN supplied and installed Swedish designed and manufactured Westcoast Windows products, which offer the ideal combination of a stylish low maintenance aluminium exterior, finished in a colour of your choice, with a warm wood interior, available in pine, oak or other timber species.
The full history of this unique barn is unknown, but some of the original oak beams have dates of 1835 carved into them. The client also discovered some numbering on the beams, which led them to believe that perhaps the barn was moved from its original location at some date.
The project really was a labour of love for the couple, overcoming areas overgrown with weeds and old farm machinery. It was the request of the planning officers to reclaim as much as possible of the old barn, so many materials were retained or re-purposed in other parts of the property.
When you enter the property via the internal courtyard you are welcomed into a bright expansive full height entrance hall with staircase to the upper floor. The dining area at one end benefits from tall fixed light windows affording views of the private garden.
Of particular note are the feature windows at the front of the property, with fixed light triangular windows set into the gable end. The bespoke oak composite windows were designed with mullions to reflect the configuration of the internal beams in the master bedroom.
The adjacent outbuildings have been converted into a sun room, offices and business meeting room facilities, all benefiting from the genuine oak Westcoast Windows composite windows and doors.
The oak interior of the composite windows really complement the oak beams throughout the property, adding an authenticity and warmth. The low maintenance aluminium exterior was finished in matt black to blend well with the traditional barn cladding.
Aluminium Clad Windows by TWN were able to supply and install the windows and doors, working with the architect and construction company throughout to ensure they aligned with the project schedule.
The property really is an excellent example of a sympathetic barn conversion.
